Meet Me in Rio

Savile Row’s collective contribution to this year’s London Collections: Men was The English Gentleman on Leave, a series of images and a fascinating film designed to underline London’s longstanding position as the world centre of men’s style.

Now in its fourth season, The English Gentleman unites and presents the exquisite work of the tailors of Savile Row and the hatters and shirtmakers of St. James’s. This season’s film was produced by Sean Thomas and stars Ed Stoppard and friends. Generous support was given by Savile Row Bespoke Association partner Woolmark. The English Gentleman presentation was produced by Sammy Aki, Lloyd Almond and Anda Rowland of Anderson & Sheppard. Styling was by Sammy Aki and Audie Charles.

The film is titled Meet Me in Rio and depicts The English Gentleman preparing his wardrobe for a trip abroad by visiting the tailors of Savile Row to commission a number of bespoke pieces. The tailoring showcases a range of beautiful materials, not least Cool Wool, and the craftsmanship of our celebrated street.

SRBA members played a leading part with Henry Poole & Co. contributing a lightweight Cool Wool dinner suit, Anderson & Sheppard a cream suit with patch pockets, Richard Anderson a navy blazer and Richard James a lightweight denim blue suit and accessories. Each piece works to demonstrate the remarkable versatility, drape and softness that wool gives to lightweight fabrics and knitwear.
