Linen on Savile Row

June saw the coming together of the European Confederation of Linen and Hemp (CELC) and The Savile Row Bespoke Association with SRB members each showcasing a bespoke linen garment in their shop windows. For Savile Row's clients, European linen is a natural summer choice - a completely natural fibre that delivers impeccable style.

The Linen industry is passionate about the Environment. A 100% sustainable plant fibre that is derived from flax plant, linen is the world's oldest textile fibre and it generates a passion for excellence from growers and tailors.

Clothing aside, linen is also combined with resin to create new eco-friendly high performance composites for the automotive, furniture, boat-building and sports industries. And it is also used in the making of bank notes, insulation board, composites, varnishes and paints, organic fertiliser, cosmetics and health foods. No part of the fibre is wasted.

Techniques for the cultivation of flax are passed from generation to generation. Grown in Europe, flax requires no artificial irrigation, fertiliser, pesticides or herbicides and its use as part of a seven year crop rotation lets land fully recover fertility.

The European Linen and Hemp Confederation (CELC), represents all stages of flax, hemp and linen production and development in Europe. With 10,000 member companies across 14 countries, CELC brings together the entire industry to create a common strategic direction.
