Extreme Vicuna

SRBA Associate Member Dormeuil’s trail-blazing quest for rare, exquisite fibres to weave into fabric has taken it to the mountains of northern Argentina, home of the wild vicuna.

The slender native vicuna - a relative of the llama – possesses an exceptionally fine and delicate fleece that is known as Andean Gold or The Fibre of the Gods. The protected vicuna are only sheared every two years and each animal supplies a mere 300 grams of wool.

In addition to unparalleled length and a fineness of just twelve microns in diameter, the fibres have an unmatched brightness which gives them an incredible lustre. These qualities have allowed Dormeuil’s master weavers to create cloth of rare brilliance, with the new Extreme Vicuna palette of ten colours featuring plum, light grey and beige.

Vicuna also allows scope for genuine technical ingenuity and finishing: the weave can be left deliberately visible and the softness to touch is nothing less than exceptional.
