200 Years Of Henry Poole & Coutts

HRH Princess Anne gave an appropriately Royal endorsement to a glittering reception at Coutts’ headquarters on the Strand on 12th September to celebrate the bank’s two-hundred year association with the founding father of Savile Row, Henry Poole & Co. Pooles, as it is known on the Row, has been awarded some forty Royal Warrants since it was founded in 1806.

The evening also marked the publication of the splendid new book Henry Poole & Co: The First Tailors of Savile Row, by the celebrated style writer James Sherwood (pictured bottom, right). HRH Princess Anne, who attended the reception in her role as President of the UK Fashion and Textile Association, was presented with a signed copy, which also features a foreword by Henry Poole & Co. Managing Director and direct Poole family descendent Simon Cundey.

Another highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the new Coutts 200th Anniversary 10z worsted cloth, which is indigo blue with a double sky blue pinstripe, each stripe neatly representing a century of Pooles’ association with Coutts.

HRH Princess Anne also took time to wish Mr Cundey’s father Angus Cundey (with HRH Princess Anne, second picture), the legendary Chairman of Henry Poole who is shortly to stand down after some fifty years service, a long and happy retirement.
